Port Receives Grant to Improve Air Quality

Tacoma was among six ports selected to receive funding for clean air projects through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) grant program.

With our $600,000 grant, we will partner with Tacoma Rail to repower or replace a locomotive with a cleaner engine and idle-reduction technology to reduce emissions by more than 50 percent.

Thank you to Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and Reps. Derek Kilmer, Dave Reichert, Adam Smith and Denny Heck for supporting our grant application.

Other ports awarded funding include the Port of Seattle, Port of Hueneme, Port of Baltimore, Virginia Port Authority and Port of Los Angeles. See a description of all funded projects.
