Congressman, Peninsula Young Professionals to Talk at Monday Round Table in Sequim...and Other Items

SEQUIM — Congressman Derek Kilmer will conduct a round-table discussion at the Peninsula Young Professionals Network meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Before the discussion in the downstairs banquet room at the Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Sequim planning director Chris Hugo will present information about the Sequim120 Comprehensive Plan update.

Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, will then lead a discussion about the issues and concerns of young professionals in Clallam County. 

Kilmer represents the 6th District, which includes the North Olympic Peninsula.

Food and beverage will be no-host.



OMC board travels to Seattle

SEATTLE — Olympic Medical Center commissioners will discuss the hospital's strategic plan with representatives of Swedish Health Services in Seattle today.

The special meeting will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Swedish Education and Conference Center on the Cherry Hill Campus in the James Tower, 550 17th Ave.

The commissioners also will discuss the Swedish Health Services strategic plan.

No action will follow.



Public office forum slated for local GOP

PORT ANGELES — A public information forum on how to file for public office will be held at the Clallam County Republican Party headquarters, 509 S. Lincoln Ave.

The free public event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Shoona Riggs, elections supervisor at the Clallam County Auditor's Office, will present information about running for office and will discuss pertinent requirements to file as a candidate. 

Filing is May 12-16 for candidates for U.S. Congress, the state Legislature, most county officials and various judicial posts. 

This is also an opportunity to file to serve on the County Charter Review Commission and as precinct committee officers.

Local voters who may be considering running for public office or helping Republican candidates campaign are encouraged to attend.

Pet food drive

SEQUIM — The 2014 Clallam County Fair Royalty Court will hold a pet food drive at Petco, 1205 W. Washington St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Queen Mia and Princess Hannah will collect pet food and products to be donated to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, Peninsula Friends of Animals and WAG. 

All financial donations will be donated to the Oso Slide Relief Fund to help feed and care for the surviving animals and/or canines assisting in the recovery effort. 

The royals will also be available for free photos with all pets and their owners.

Thrift shop open

SEQUIM — The Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The shop has furniture items, household accessories, jewelry, kitchenware and spring fashions for men, women and children. 

Volunteers and consignors are always needed.

Audubon field trip

PORT TOWNSEND — The Admiralty Audubon will host a free field trip at Fort Worden State Park from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The group will meet in the commons parking lot.

The group will do a lot of walking but at a slow and comfortable pace.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Spincycle Trunk Show will be held at the Bazaar Girls Yarn Shop, 126 Quincy St., from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Community dinner slated

SEQUIM — A free community dinner will be served at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 24.

The meal includes meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, desserts and beverages.

Reservations, which are requested to ensure that enough food is prepared, may be made by phoning the church at 360-683-5367 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by emailing dinners@sequimtumc.org.

The church presents the dinners on the last Thursday of each month.
