Port Angeles – Groundbreaking for the new Composite Recycling Technology Center (CRTC) took place Monday morning with a host of dignitaries in attendance.

Port Commissioner Jim Hallett emceed the event by welcoming Governor Jay Inslee, U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer, Rosa McLeod, a representative for U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, Dr. Christopher Keane from Washington State University, Dr. Luke Robins, President of Peninsula College, and Tim Kirk, Vice President of Sales and Marketing from Toray Composites.

The CRTC has been an on-going effort for the Port to establish the recycling of carbon fiber scrap material and re-process it into new, marketable products.

Governor Inslee praised the Port's efforts for having the vision for this business niche, as well as the tenacity to secure the financing necessary to launch the endeavor.

Representative Derek Kilmer also praised the efforts of local government in getting the CRTC started.

Work now begins on finishing the inside of the 25-thousand square foot structure located in the 2200 hundred block of West 18th Street in Port Angeles. Once completed, the CRTC is anticipated to create 200 direct jobs within six years, with an additional 340 jobs created through indirect and induced impact.

The Governor also took part at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new North Olympic Healthcare Network. The former Family Medicine Clinic in Port Angeles recently switched to a designated federal health center. Clallam County had been the only county in the state that did not have such a designated center.
