Report On Strain Facing The Navy And Marine Corps
The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments releases a report this morning that details the strain on the Navy and Marine Corps fleet trying to maintain a global presence. The study finds that increased demand, a reduced number of ships and budget cuts have all left the services with the choice of maintaining a presence in troubled regions around the globe that risks crippling the fleet, or pulling back and leaving U.S. interests and allies more vulnerable.
The report, which is being released with the Navy League’s “America’s Strength” campaign that advocates for more Navy investment, will be unveiled at an event on Capitol Hill this morning, with Reps. Randy Forbes (R-Va.), Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) and Derek Kilmer (D-Wash.).
Also on Capitol Hill, the House Armed Services Committee holds a hearing with experts on Iraq and Syria, with former acting CIA Director John McLaughlin and former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker. And the Senate Armed Services Committee has a classified hearing on the protecting undersea infrastructure.
