Cantwell & Kilmer Talk Economic Development in Shelton
U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell and U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer were in Shelton Friday to discuss economic development opportunities and the RECOMPETE Act – bipartisan legislation signed into law as part of the Chips & Science Act. The pilot program of the RECOMPETE Act will establish a new $1 billion federal grant program to invest in communities that have faced long-term economic challenges. The Senator and Congressman held a roundtable discussion on the economic growth opportunities with Shelton City Manager Jeff Niten, Shelton Community and Economic Development Director Jae Hill, Mason County Administrator Mark Neary, Mason County PUD No. 1 Manager Kristin Masteller, Mason PUD 3 Manager Annette Creekpaum, and Jennifer Baria, Executive Director of Mason County Economic Development Council.
Cantwell and Kilmer then toured infrastructure and economic development sites within the Shelton Urban Growth Area.
