CKHS Student Places First In Congressional Art Competition
Central Kitsap High School student Quincy Rumpke was named the first-place winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition for Washington’s 6th Congressional District, Representative Derek Kilmer (WA-06) announced this week.
The Congressional Art Competition takes place annually and is meant to showcase the artistic talents from high school students across the country. Rumpke’s work will now be displayed for 11 months in the tunnel that leads to the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. alongside winners from other states. The CKHS student will also be invited on a trip for two to Washington D.C. to see their piece and others firsthand.
Additionally, two other CKHS students, Angela Bai and Skylar Labelle, placed second and third in the competition.
“We have immensely talented young students across the region,” Kilmer said. “The Congressional Art Competition provides them with an opportunity to showcase their artistic abilities – and earn a chance to win a trip to our nation’s capital. The artwork submitted this year was beyond impressive and I want to thank everyone who participated! Congratulations to Quincy and I look forward to seeing them in the nation’s capital as soon as it is safe!”
