Grays Harbor Candidates in State Races
In addition to local races on the Primary ballot, numerous Harborites were in the running for legislative races on Tuesday.
While some of local candidates will not be appearing on the November ballot, Grays Harbor will still see representation.
Westport resident Mike Coverdale will not be challenging Derek Kilmer for his Representative seat in District 6. Coverdale, in his first ballot appearance, was inspired to run by the Bernie Sanders campaign.
GOP candidate Sue Kuehl Pederson will face Democratic Senator Dean Takko for his 19th District seat. Takko was appointed to the position following the retirement of Brian Hatfield of Raymond. Hatfield took a job at the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
Takko and Kuehl Pederson were the only candidates on the ballot for that position.
Republican Jim Walsh will be facing Representative JD Rossetti in the 19th District. Walsh, state Republican Vice Chair and Chairman of the Grays Harbor Republican Party, will be up against the appointed Democrat for Senator Dean Takko’s former seat. Rossetti was appointed following Takko’s appointment.
Walsh carried 37.65% in Grays Harbor and a total of 29.45% which is good enough the top spot.
Democratic Representative Brian Blake will defend his position in November against another Harborite in Jimi O’Hagan of Westport. Blake received 55.55% of the vote and O’Hagen followed with 38.66%.
