NOHN SCORES LARGE USDA INVESTMENT TO FINISH NEW FACILITY
Port Angeles – On Friday, U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer announced that the North Olympic Healthcare Network (NOHN) had secured $349,000 in federal investment through the USDA’s Emergency Rural Health Care Program. The new rural development investment is intended to assist NOHN in the purchase of furnishings and equipment for the clinic the health care facility is remodeling on First Street in Port Angeles.
The investment in NOHN is expected to benefit more than 19,000 residents of the Olympic Peninsula. NOHN is nearing completion of the renovation of a property that will allow them to accommodate five more primary care providers, additional behavioral health staff, and add new eye care/vision services for patients with Medicaid or Medicare. In 2020, Rep. Kilmer advocated for this funding in a letter to former U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Purdue, pointing out its importance in meeting the needs of the community. This project is expected to increase the capacity of health care delivery services, as the new clinic will serve as a site for COVID-19 testing and vaccines.
“We are grateful for this USDA funding, as it will help support much-needed health care services in our rural community,” said CEO of North Olympic Healthcare Network, Michael Maxwell, MD. “As the provider of services for the entire community, including some of our most vulnerable populations, including senior and low-income residents, we look forward to beginning operations at the new Eastside Health Center in January 2023.”
NOHN is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center offering full-spectrum care encompassing all aspects of health, including primary care, obstetrics, pediatrics, behavioral health, dental care, mobile health services and patient navigation for addressing social determinates of health.
