REP. KILMER APPOINTED TO SELECT CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE

House leadership has appointed the following members of Congress to the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, which is chaired by Rep. Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and vice-chaired by Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA).

The Select Committee was established to study, investigate, and develop recommendations on modernizing Congress, including recommending rules to promote a more modern and efficient Congress; procedures, including the schedule and calendar; policies to develop the next generation of leaders; staff recruitment, diversity, retention, and compensation and benefits; administrative efficiencies, including purchasing, travel, outside services, and shared administrative staff; technology and innovation; and the work of the House Commission on Congressional Mailing Standards.

The congressional members are: Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Rodney Davis (R-IL), Susan Brooks (R-IN), Rob Woodall (R-GA), Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA), William Timmons (R-SC), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Dan Newhouse (R-WA), and Mark Pocan (D-WI).

“It’s clear now, more than ever, that the House is a fixer-upper,” Kilmer said. “Americans deserve a government that works. I am excited to get to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle who got appointed to the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress. My colleagues bring diverse backgrounds and perspectives to the Committee, and they have a proven track record of increasing transparency in government.

Soon the Committee will work across the aisle to create bipartisan, lasting change to modernize Congress and get it working for the people again.”
