Kilmer Invites Students to Participate in Congressional Art Competition

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Derek Kilmer invites high school students from Washington’s 6th Congressional District to participate in the 2016 Congressional Art Competition. This nationwide contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent, and is open to all high school students who live in the district.

“We have some amazingly talented artists in our region,” said Kilmer. “The Congressional Art Competition provides them with an opportunity to show off their work - and earn a chance to win a trip to our nation's capital. I hope students participate.”

The winning artist will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and be awarded a trip for two to Washington D.C.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Each framed artwork can be no larger than 28 inches high, 28 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. Accepted mediums include:

  • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
  • Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal
  • Collages: must be two dimensional
  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photographs

All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws.

For consideration, entries must be received by April 18, 2016 at 5 p.m. to either of Kilmer’s District Offices below:

  • Bremerton Office: 345 6th St., Suite 500, Bremerton, WA  98337 (Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
