FRIDAY IN GIG HARBOR, WA: Representative Derek Kilmer to Host Commemoration of National Vietnam Veterans Day
On Friday, March 29, U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer and local elected officials will host an event commemorating National Vietnam Veterans Day.
In 2012, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation to recognize Vietnam Veterans Day as a day for all Americans to commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the Vietnam War. President Donald J. Trump later signed into law the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017, which certified that Vietnam veterans will be commemorated annually for their service.
Hosted by Pierce County Councilman Derek Young and Gig Harbor Mayor Kit Kuhn, the event will feature remarks by Representative Kilmer and the presentation of a commemorative pin to each of the Vietnam Era Veterans in attendance. Any veteran who served during the Vietnam Era (Nov 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975), regardless of theater, are eligible to attend and receive a pin. Spouses and immediate family members of veterans who are deceased or otherwise can’t attend are encouraged to attend and receive a pin on behalf of their veteran.
