Kilmer Congratulates Port Townsend Resident on National Award for Transportation Work
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Derek Kilmer congratulated Dan Burden, a resident of Port Townsend, for being one of 11 individuals honored by the White House as a Champion of Change for transportation. Dan is the Director of Innovation and Inspiration at the nonprofit Walkable and Livable Communities Institute, based in the 6th Congressional District. His work to design cities for people while still accommodating automotive transportation has spanned 3,500 cities and 35 years.
The “Champions of Change” recognized today by the White House are local individuals who show exemplary leadership connecting individuals and their communities with new opportunities, using innovative transportation facilities, services, and jobs.
“I’d like to thank Dan for the job he’s done making our neighborhoods and cities work for everyone – whether you walk, bike, or drive,” said Representative Kilmer. “Port Townsend and the region are proud that Dan’s leadership on this issue has received national attention. I’m glad the White House is recognizing his innovative approaches to make our communities more walkable and livable.”
The White House created the Champions of Change program to highlight individuals who engage and inspire members of their communities. You can read more about previous winners at the White House Champions of Change website.
