Kilmer Invites Students to Participate in Congressional Art Competition
Representative Derek Kilmer invites high school students from Washington’s 6th Congressional District to participate in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. This nationwide competition, sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives, is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the 6th Congressional District, as well as in the nation.
The competition is open to all high school students residing in the 6th Congressional District of Washington. The student whose artwork is selected will be invited to travel to Washington, D.C. in June to attend a ceremony unveiling their artwork and will be given two complimentary round-trip flights for the event.
Representative Kilmer said, “The arts are much more than an elective or extra-curricular activity. The arts can be a catalyst in having students think creatively and giving students the opportunity to excel. That’s why I’m proud to invite high school students across the district to showcase their artistic ability and show why supporting the arts in our schools is so important.”
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
