Kilmer Recognizes Appointment of Region’s Students to Service Academies Across the Nation

Today, U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, recognized the appointments of 11 outstanding students from the Sixth Congressional District to U.S. Service Academies across the nation.

Being offered appointments from the 6th Congressional District are:

  • Ervin Anies (Port Orchard, WA) – U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis
  • Carsten Bahl (Westport, WA) – U.S. Military Academy, West Point
  • Kyle Campbell (Bremerton, WA) – U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs
  • Eryn Culton (Shelton, WA) – U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis
  • Gee Yong Jorde (Bremerton, WA) – U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis
  • Christopher Kelley (Seabeck, WA) – U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs
  • Logan Knowles (Port Orchard, WA) – U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis
  • Clara Lund (Poulsbo, WA) – U.S. Military Academy, West Point
  • Dakota Meadows (Silverdale, WA) – U.S. Military Academy, West Point
  • Luke Peoples (Bremerton, WA ) – U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis
  • Carolyn Williams (Bainbridge Island, WA) – U.S. Military Academy, West Point

“An appointment to one of the nation’s prestigious service academies is a great honor,” said Kilmer. “These excellent students from our region chosen to attend these institutions will receive a quality education while developing the skills to serve as leaders in the future.

“I know that every one of these students offered this opportunity has what it takes to succeed, not only at their respective academies but also during their military service. We all look forward to hearing about the great things they accomplish for our nation and the state of Washington.”

As a member of Congress, Representative Kilmer has the privilege of nominating a limited number of high school students to the country’s four U.S. Service Academies. Representative Kilmer works with a group of local veterans representing every branch of service when interviewing the students for a nomination. Students who attend service academies must maintain a commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Washington state’s 6th District is home to more than 25,000 active duty and reserve service members, along with more than 50,000 veterans and their families. Naval Base Kitsap, the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and many other important facilities and vessels are located in the 6th District.
