Kilmer Welcomes Federal Assistance for Small Business Owners and Families in Grays Harbor County

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Derek Kilmer (WA-06) welcomed the announcement that the Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide assistance to businesses and residents in Grays Harbor County. The SBA approved Governor Jay Inslee’s request for a physical disaster declaration for the area.

Earlier this week, Kilmer sent a letter to the SBA urging the approval, citing the severe flooding and mudslides that damaged local businesses and neighborhoods.

“The severe storms in Grays Harbor left a lot of people hurting,” said Kilmer. “I’m pleased the Small Business Administration has listened to our request to provide relief to folks in need. This assistance will give a boost to small businesses struggling with cleanup and allow homeowners and renters to get back on their feet. With this program we can continue our effort to get Main Street open for business and residents back into their homes.”

The SBA disaster loan program allows qualified businesses and nonprofits to apply for up to $2 million for repairs to real estate, equipment, inventory, and fixtures. Under the program homeowners can receive up to $200,000 to fix the structure of their homes and renters and homeowners with significant uninsured loss can borrow up to $40,000 to replace items such as automobiles and appliances.
