Rep. Kilmer, Senators Murray and Cantwell, Release Joint Statement on Biden Administration Return of Funds to Naval Base Kitsap Pier Project
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer (WA-06), and U.S. Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA), released the following statement on President Biden’s announcement that his administration will reallocate back to the original projects $2.2 billion in military construction funding that former President Trump had attempted to divert towards construction of his border wall. This includes funding for a Naval Base Kitsap project to construct a pier that supports the Maritime Force Protection Unit, which protects submarines and their crew on the way to and from the base.
“We’re glad to see President Biden reverse President Trump’s misguided attempt to divert funds away from national security priorities to his ineffective, unnecessary border wall. The return of this funding to critical defense infrastructure projects will help to improve military readiness and spur local economic growth. We look forward to continue working with President Biden to support servicemembers across our state.”
