In my DC office, internships run on a semester basis, with a fall, spring and summer cohort. The hours are flexible to accommodate college students' hectic course schedules, and all of our interns receive a monthly stipend.
Intern responsibilities vary - they assist with answering phones, researching legislation, attending hearings and briefings, and drafting constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, our DC internships are currently fully virtual.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the internship program in Washington state has been temporarily suspended.
