Martha & Mary hosts Open House and Art Show Sept. 10
POULSBO — In celebration of its 125th year, Martha & Mary will welcome the community in for an Open House and Art Show 5-8 p.m. Sept. 10.
The event will feature art exhibits created by seniors and children cared for by the non-profit, including paintings, drawings, a wide variety of crafts, 3D design and poetry.
Visitors will have the opportunity to view the organization’s permanent art collection and see works created by visiting artist Susan Ogilvie, who specializes in iconography.
Additionally, guests will get a chance to see Martha & Mary’s therapeutic art program for senior residents in-action and learn about their newest quality of life program called Music & Memory, which engages individuals suffering from dementia.
Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson is expected to attend the celebration and read a recent proclamation honoring Martha & Mary’s long-time service to the community. A Congressional Record document reflecting a recent tribute to the organization made by U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer, D-Bremerton, will also be on display.
“We are so pleased to open our doors and invite in our community to celebrate our 125th anniversary with us,” Martha & Mary’s development director Paula Rimmer said in an event announcement.
“We are eager to display the artistic talents of our seniors and children and showcase the ways that Martha & Mary is a vibrant place to live and receive care — a place where people are encouraged to express themselves in creative ways at any age and every stage of life.”
The event is free and open to the public, and takes place in conjunction with Poulsbo’s Second Saturday Art Walk. The festivities will include light refreshments and music by the Kitsap Chordsmen’s quartet, Daydream.
Martha & Mary’s care services include senior housing, rehabilitation, home care, care management and long-term care for seniors, as well as early learning programs for children.
