Successes and highlights of the past two years

Friend,I hope you had a terrific holiday! It was a wonderful time for my family (though I probably ate more Christmas cookies and roast-beast than I should’ve). As the 113th Congress draws to a close, I reflect back on my first two years representing you in Washington D.C. Despite it being a challenging couple of years, I’m really proud of the things that we’ve accomplished. As we head toward the New Year, I want to take a few minutes to share with you some of my favorite memories from the … Continue Reading

Thinking of Oso

March 28, 2014 Friend, I want to start by sharing my deepest sympathies with the Snohomish County community - all of those whose lives were lost and who were affected by the mudslide are in my thoughts and prayers, including the brave first responders. Here in Washington State, we take pride in our close-knit communities. So our hearts break when a tragedy of this magnitude hits a place like Oso. My team and I are in close contact with the governor, our senators, … Continue Reading

As we "spring" forward...

March 14, 2014 Friend, It looks like spring is just around the corner here in Washington State as well as in Washington D.C. You may have heard of the well-known Cherry Blossom Festival, drawing thousands to D.C. from late March through early April - we’re expecting over 250 constituents in our office alone. It's important to me that you have the opportunity to speak with me personally and tell me what's on your mind. We had a bunch of great events - "Kilmer at Your Company" visits, a terrific roundtable with the Hilltop Action Coalition, a fun (and filling) visit to the Asia Pacific Cultural Center's New Year celebration, and a whole lot more. Thank you to … Continue Reading

Floor Speeches

Editorial Articles

Editorials historically came about as a means to let the average person know the opinions of the editors and publishers of newspapers and magazines.Eventually editors realized that added interest in their newspapers and magazines could be sparked by allowing readers to express their opinions on the page opposite the editorial, and the modern op-ed was invented. Today 'editorial' and 'op-ed' are often used interchangeably to refer to any written piece expressing an opinion on … Continue Reading
