Cybersecurity Focus for Latest “Kilmer at Your Company” and Listening Tour Stops

Continuing on his Listening Tour of the region, Representative Derek Kilmer made multiple stops on Thursday, meeting with security and cybersecurity businesses and experts.  Earlier this week, Representative Kilmer was appointed to two subcommittees with jurisdiction over cybersecurity issues - the Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee on the Armed Services Committee and the Technology Subcommittee on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee.

Representative Kilmer’s stops on Thursday included:

  • Holding his second “Kilmer at Your Company” event at Evergreen Fire and Security where he was accessible to all employees;
  • Meeting with experts on cybersecurity education and workforce development at University of Washington Tacoma.

This is the third week of Listening Tour events to solicit input on important issues from members of the community.  Kilmer held a “Kilmer at Your Company” event at SAFE Boats in Bremerton last week and will continue holding similar events with employers large and small in the region throughout the year.

“As the 21st century brings new and more sophisticated threats, we need to be smart about keeping our public and private sector networks secure,” said Representative Kilmer.  “I’ll ensure our region continues to lead in developing a high-quality cybersecurity workforce and help our local businesses develop technologies and policies to close vulnerabilities that could cause harm to our national defense, infrastructure, and financial system.”

Other stops on Representative Kilmer’s Listening Tour this week include attending the Clallam Economic Development Council’s Annual Dinner. In previous weeks, Representative Kilmer has visited with local Military and small business leaders.
